Students Visas
People who wish to study at an American school can obtain an F visa to complete a U.S. academic program. The person can be in another country wishing to enter the U.S. to study in the U.S., or may be a person that is here under a different visa category and wishes to change status to an F visa.
An applicant for an F visa must engage in a full course of study, must not seek or obtain employment (with few exceptions), must have the financial ability to support themselves while in the U.S. and must intend, at the time of obtaining the F visa, to depart the U.S. at the end of the academic program.
In order to obtain an F visa, the applicant must file an application with either a U.S. consulate (if outside the U.S.) or with USCIS (if inside the U.S. under another visa category). The applicant must obtain a certificate of eligibility from the U.S. academic institution, and submit other evidence in support of the application.
If you would like to apply for an F visa, a change of status from or to an F visa, or if you have any other questions or concerns regarding an F visa, please call Shorstein & Lasnetski at 904-642-3332.
